Pikitup to clear a duping site in Northwold

Pikitup will remove the rubble and dirt at an unauthorised dumping site in Northworld.

Pikitup spokesperson Muzi Mkhwanazi said that the entity is aware of the illegal dumping site at the corner of Malibongwe and President Fouché drives and is organising resources to clear the site.

The huge space at the side of the road has been continuously filled with rubble by construction trucks, trees and other filth. Workers and other people utilising the pathway connecting Malibongwe Drive and Fifth Road find it difficult to make their way across the dumping site, which has become a criminal hotspot and eyesore.

“The illegal dumping in that area is huge and will require significant resources to clear in view of the fact that other services, such as bin collection have to be rendered in the area. Once such resources have been organised the site will be cleaned.”

Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) spokesperson Xolani Fihla confirmed that they are aware of the dumping site and they have more than 100 unlawful sites in the city, and unfortunately, they can’t place officers permanently at all of these hotspots.

He added that the JMPD will monitor the area and those found dumping illegally will be dealt with.

Mkwanazi is appealing to residents who reside near the site or those who happen to witness illegal dumpers to report them to the JMPD by taking photographs of their vehicles, date and time of the alleged offence and report such to the JMPD on their illegal dumping WhatsApp number
082 779 1361.
