New learners join Rand Park High family

Rand Park High School welcomed its new Grade 8 learners with a meaningful candle-lighting ceremony, symbolising the start of their high school journey.

Rand Park High School celebrated the start of the academic year with its annual Grade 8 candle-lighting ceremony on the evening of January 17. The event, a cherished tradition at the school, symbolises the beginning of a new journey for the youngest members of the Rand Park family.

The ceremony saw the Grade 8 learners and school leaders participate in a heartwarming inauguration. The juniors performed a song, specially written by the leaders, to an audience of proud parents. They also took a pledge, affirming their commitment to uphold the school’s values and standards.

Principal Alan Wilke expressed his excitement about welcoming the new learners and their families. “We welcome the new learners and their parents to Rand Park and look forward to five years of growth, achievement, and happy memories,” he said.

The candle-lighting ceremony marked the end of an orientation week filled with engaging activities. Grade 8 tutors and leaders worked together to introduce the learners to Rand Park’s culture, academic programmes, and extra-curricular opportunities. The orientation included school tours, games, war cries, and team-building exercises designed to foster new friendships.

With this meaningful start to their high school journey, the Grade 8s are well-prepared to embrace the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
