The city has experienced an abundance of rainfall over December and January, transforming it into a lush, green landscape. While this is a welcome sight, the combination of heavy rain and warm temperatures has led to rapid overgrowth in parks, verges, and cemeteries.

Mega blitz activities will include:
• Overgrown trees that require pruning,
• Illegal dumping,
• Displaced individuals in parks,
• Vandalism of infrastructure, and
• Overgrown grass.

JCPZ spokesperson Jenny Moodley explained that all regional staff will participate, with each member assigned with specific tasks and areas to ensure thorough coverage of the identified locations.

“The mega blitz programme aims to achieve a visible impact in a short period by concentrating resources on targeted areas and delivering a wide range of horticultural services to ensure the city remains green and beautiful. The initiative will continue every Thursday until May, under the theme: Boots on the Ground.”

JCPZ appeals to residents, businesses, ward committees, and resident associations across Randburg to join this important greening campaign by maintaining their private spaces and clearing the verges surrounding their properties.

“We are grateful to the many residents and associations already doing outstanding work to maintain public spaces, including the sidewalks in front of their homes. Together, we can make a lasting difference in the appearance and health of our city.”

She shared some of the benefits of maintaining a clean and well-kept Johannesburg:

• Enhanced aesthetic appeal: A neat, well-maintained city fosters community pride and creates a more visually appealing environment.
• Improved safety: Regular maintenance reduces hazards, making our streets safer for pedestrians and drivers alike.
• Healthier environment: Consistent care helps control pests and limits the spread of diseases.
• Increased property values: Clean, attractive neighbourhoods are more desirable, often leading to higher property values.
• Community engagement: Collaborative efforts in maintaining the city strengthen the sense of community and co-operation.

Moodley encourages everyone to take part in this campaign and contribute to the ongoing beautification of the area. For more information, please contact JCPZ at 011 712 6600 or visit Jhbcityparksandzoo.com for updates and JCPZ’s weekly schedule.
