Northgate Shopping Centre marked the conclusion of Mandela month by investing in the education of young learners, giving 15 foundation phase classrooms at Tirisano Mmogo Primary School in Cosmo City a much-needed revitalisation.

Driven by the belief that every child deserves a safe and inspiring place to learn, the initiative provided the classrooms with a fresh look. Newly painted walls and replacement doors have created brighter more welcoming spaces for both learners and teachers.

The project finished with a special handover celebration on July 31. The learners enjoyed a meal made possible through the support of Pick n Pay Hypermarket and Econo Foods, who kindly donated 288 hot dogs. HomeChoice also joined the celebrations, donating 20 blankets to foundation phase learners and 10 pairs of earbuds to help support the school community’s needs.

“Education is one of the greatest investments we can make in the future of our communities,” said Danis Manjate, marketing manager at Northgate Shopping Centre. “This Mandela month initiative was about far more than painting classrooms; it was about creating spaces where children feel inspired, valued, and excited to learn every day. We are incredibly grateful to Pick n Pay Hypermarket, Econo Foods, and HomeChoice for partnering with us to make a meaningful and lasting difference in the lives of these learners.”

The school warmly received the improvements. “We are sincerely grateful to the Northgate team and its partners,” said Tsepho Molepo, foundation phase head of department at Tirisano Mmogo Primary School, “for transforming our classrooms into bright, inviting learning spaces.
