Pool safety for the holiday season

December and January mean two things, holiday and pool fun, especially since it's summer. Have a look at these helpful tips to keep everyone safe around the pool this holiday season.

South Africa’s festive season is known for being hot since it is in the summer season, it is also a time when families can enjoy a picnic around the pool to cool off.

The following are tips that can be followed to stay safe around the pool:

  • Always keep the pool clean. Have secure fencing around the pool.
  • Ensure that everyone who wants to swim can swim.
  • Keep lifesaving equipment near the pool area.
  • Inspect your pool periodically for signs of wear and tear.
  • Never allow anyone who has been drinking alcohol to use the pool.
  • No running next to the pool to prevent slipping and falling.
  • Do not allow any electrical appliances near the pool.
  • Ensure that the pool is deep enough. If not, enforce a ‘no diving’ rule.
  • Do not jump through inflatable tubes, as you may get stuck and unable to come up for air.
