Man injured after accident along Jan Smuts
A man was injured after being hit by a car in Blairgowrie when a friend playfully pushed him into the road during a walk.
A man sustained injuries after being hit by a car while walking along a service road along Jan Smuts in Blairgowrie on July 11. The incident occurred when the man, who was walking with a friend, was accidentally pushed into the road and into the path of an oncoming vehicle.
Shannon Tate, a Vega student assistant who witnessed the scene shortly after the accident, said the two men had been playfully interacting when one of them jokingly pushed the other. The victim did not see the car coming from behind him and stepped directly into its path.
The driver of the car, Sandy Cuthbertson, said she was travelling in the same direction the two men were walking. She could not stop in time and hit the man. “They were walking ahead of me, and one jumped into the road. I didn’t see him until it was too late,” she said.

The victim’s friend, Wisdom Nkatha, confirmed he was with him at the time of the accident. Emergency services from Beagle Watch and paramedics were quickly on the scene, along with police officers. The victim suffered bruising to his lower back and pelvis, along with scrapes on his legs. The full extent of his injuries is still being assessed.
Cuthbertson’s vehicle, which she said was only two months old, was badly damaged in the crash. “Even the door doesn’t open anymore,” she added.
A case has been opened for insurance purposes, and both parties are expected to visit JMPD offices to obtain official documentation.
