Donation of library trolley brings reading to Stephenson Primary School

Randburg's After Skool Is Lit Organisation celebrated Heritage Day with learners at Stephenson Primary School in Cosmo by donating a library trolley full of 500 books to the school.

Randburg’s After Skool Is Lit Organisation celebrated Heritage Day, donating a library trolley, by AVBOB, to Stephenson Primary School in Cosmo City, through their Road to Literacy Programme.

After Skool Is Lit director Sifisokuhle Mkwanazi explained that the donation will go a long way in promoting reading, learning, and development among young people in the community.

“Not only does it celebrate AVBOB’s contribution; it shines a light on the importance of literacy and the work we’re doing to empower youth.”

The organisation has been committed to literacy, hosting spelling bee competitions. Mkwanazi said their mission is to help the youth.

“We saw a need to donate to Stephenson Primary, as they don’t have good facilities to study, they lack resources, and don’t have proper infrastructure, like computer systems.”

Principal Jean Muzavazi thanked the organisation for the generous donation.

“This thoughtful gift will transform our library into a vibrant hub of learning and discovery for our young readers.

The 500 books stocked in this trolley will not only ignite a love for reading but also support foundational skills in numeracy and language, helping our students thrive in the classroom and beyond.”

He added that they are truly honoured to be among the beneficiaries, and they look forward to the joy and growth this resource will spark at the school.

“In a country where access to quality reading materials remains a challenge for so many children, such an organisation’s commitment to fostering literacy, especially through mother-tongue resources and mobile trolley libraries, brings hope and opportunity to our learners.”
