After years of torture, the Malanshof community can finally enjoy peaceful nights

The Gauteng Liquor Board has made its decision to revoke the liquor licence of Nova Bar in Malanshof.

The liquor license for Sunrise Pizza & Restaurant, trading as Nova Bar, at the corner of Silver Pine Avenue and River Road, Malanshof, was officially revoked on November 18.

It’s a decision that Ward 104 councillor Emi Koekemoer welcomed, thanks to the Gauteng Liquor Board.

She said that, for over a decade, the Malanshof community grappled with the effects of having the liquor establishment in their suburb. It is close to schools, wildlife, and residents who had to endure the late-night traffic, shouting, and loud music from the bar.

“This could not have happened without the perseverance of residents, the continued support by the Linden Community Policing Forum (CPF) and Linden SAPS, and countless hours of night raids, scrutinising fine print and building a solid case that would see the community through to a victory.”

Koekemoer added that her sincerest hope is that this sets a precedent for liquor establishments in our suburbs.

“Heaps of gratitude are due to the station commander of Linden SAPS, Annelize Tichauer, Priscilla Cilliers, CPF lawyer, and the rest of the team at Linden SAPS, as well as the residents who were prepared to stand up and be counted in a 10-year battle to end this scourge.”

The Linden CPF, in a statement, extended its sincere appreciation to the community for standing together, remaining patient, and trusting in due process.

They said the progress of this nature is only possible when concerns are formally raised and supported with clear evidence.

“A special word of thanks goes to the individuals who submitted and tabled the community’s concerns with the relevant authorities.

We also acknowledge the residents who provided affidavits, shared evidence, and participated in surveys and petitions. Your involvement directly contributed to this outcome.”

The Linden CPF remains committed to ensuring that community voices are heard and that lawful processes are upheld to protect the safety, well-being, and quality of life of all residents.
