Police detain suspects after Malibongwe kidnapping rescue operation
A kidnapping victim was rescued after police chased suspects from Sandton before detaining them during a takedown on Malibongwe Drive.
A kidnapping victim was rescued, and suspects detained, after a police chase ended on Malibongwe Drive in Randburg on the afternoon of March 3.

Earlier that afternoon, at about 16:20, an alert, circulated by the Gauteng Police Board Joint Operations Centre, reported an active crime scene near the Malibongwe Drive off-ramp. Motorists were warned to expect delays as law enforcement responded to the incident. According to Sergeant Takalani Sibiya, of the Linden branch of the South African Police Service, the scene followed a police operation linked to a suspected hijacking and kidnapping.

Sibiya said officers pursued the suspects from Sandton before bringing the vehicle to a stop on Malibongwe Drive in Randburg. “The suspects were detained and the victim was rescued.”

Law enforcement secured the area while officers processed the scene, which briefly affected traffic in the area as motorists were advised to use alternative routes.
Further details, including the number of suspects involved and the circumstances leading to the kidnapping and hijacking, had not yet been released at the time of publishing.
