Beagle Watch hands burglary suspects to Linden police

Three people are in police custody after Beagle Watch response officers tracked and cornered a white Toyota Quantum in Linden on May 14.

Three suspects were arrested in the early hours of May 14.

This was after Beagle Watch response officers chased down a white Toyota Quantum on Bram Fischer Drive in Linden, following an electric fence activation at a nearby residential complex.

The incident began when an alarm was triggered at a complex on Boundary Road. On arrival, an on-site security guard told response officers that he had watched three suspects jump out of the premises and run in the direction of Bram Fischer Drive.

Officers immediately began patrolling the area in search of the trio. They soon spotted a white Toyota Quantum parked on the corner of Bram Fischer Drive and Boundary Road, just as the three suspects were seen climbing into the vehicle.

Four Beagle Watch vehicles converged on the Quantum, followed it, and eventually brought it to a stop. A search of the vehicle uncovered tools, vehicle-disarming devices, and burner cell phones.

Given the range of implements found, officers decided to detain the driver as well, on suspicion of being an accomplice. The Quantum was secured as evidence.

Area manager David Caserío confirmed that a total of six people were found inside the vehicle and taken to Linden SAPS. However, only three were formally detained.

The remaining three were profiled and subsequently released by Linden SAPS, as investigators established that they had no involvement in the incident and were apparently unaware of the identities or intentions of the three suspects who had jumped in.

The variety of tools recovered from the vehicle has led investigators to believe that those detained may be linked to a string of recent motorcycle thefts, vehicle thefts, and house burglaries across the greater Linden area, making the arrest a significant development for the community.

The suspects, the vehicle, and all recovered items were handed over to Linden SAPS for further investigation.
