Randburg teen football player earns spot in the Coventry UK Showcase 2026
Nathan Bredenkamp earned his place at the Coventry UK Showcase 2026 on merit alone. Now the Randburg teenager is asking his community to help him get there.
Nathan Bredenkamp has always had a ball at his feet.
The 17-year-old from Randburg started playing football simply because he loved it, but somewhere along the way, the game became something far bigger than a pastime. It became a purpose. Born in the Northern Cape in February 2009, Nathan moved to Johannesburg at the age of nine and quickly found his footing through sport. Over the years he has earned top school honours in soccer, hockey, and rugby sevens, and last year he travelled to Portugal to compete in the Iber Cup, an international youth football tournament that sharpened his game and opened his eyes to just how competitive football is beyond South African borders.

Now, Nathan has been selected to participate in the Coventry UK Showcase 2026, a prestigious talent programme hosted by ZSPORTS Global in partnership with Brooke House College Academy in England. “The programme includes high-level training sessions, competitive matches, and exposure to international coaches and scouts. It is an opportunity to learn, grow, and show what I can do on an international stage.”

Nathan trains with Uniao Football Club and juggles his football commitments with hockey and rugby, a combination he says makes him a better all-round athlete. Rugby builds his strength, hockey sharpens his awareness and speed, but football remains his first love and his ultimate priority. “It is not always easy, but I have learned to manage my time and stay disciplined. I make sure I give my best in each code, while keeping football as my main priority.”

His mother, Kedibone, has been the constant force behind his journey. Nathan describes her as his biggest influence, someone who has supported him, pushed him towards discipline, and made sacrifices so he can keep chasing his dreams. His coaches, too, have played a meaningful role in building both his ability and his belief in himself.

Away from the field, Nathan is equally grounded. He understands the importance of education and approaches his schoolwork with the same focus he brings to training. He speaks honestly about what sport has given him, beyond the obvious. “Sport has been more than just a game for me; it has kept me disciplined and away from the wrong places and the wrong influences. I have chosen to spend my time on the field, working towards my dream.”

His long-term ambition is to play professional football, though he is equally open to earning an academic scholarship that would allow him to develop both on and off the pitch. He wants, simply, to make the most of every door that opens.
He earned his place on merit alone. His performances and dedication to the game saw him identified and selected, and it is a distinction he does not take lightly. What stands between him and this life-changing trip, however, is money. The financial shortfall covers travel, accommodation, and tournament costs for the Coventry trip. Nathan and his family are appealing to the Randburg community, local businesses, and anyone willing to invest in a young man who has already shown the discipline and character to deserve the chance. “Any contribution, big or small, please contact 075 460 8393. It would not only help me get to Coventry; it would also keep me on this path. I promise to represent my community with pride and give my absolute best.”
