The Randburg licence centre has temporarily suspended services.

This is due to essential consumables, needed for daily operations, being unavailable.

According to acting director for licensing Heston Mabiya, items such as A4 printing paper, printer toner cartridges, and face-value documents are unavailable, making it impossible to process licence-related transactions.

The temporary closure has affected several key services, including learner’s licence bookings, driving licence tests, the renewal of driving licences, and the renewal of professional driving permits (PDPs).

The shortage has caused inconvenience for many residents who rely on the centre for licensing services. Members of the public who had appointments are advised to postpone their visits until the required materials are restocked.

Some applicants may now face delays in obtaining or renewing their licences, which could affect their ability to drive legally or continue working in professions that require valid driving credentials.

Mabiya explained that the suspension is temporary, but it is unclear when services will resume. “We have been hoping to get consumables so we can operate.

Now, with the absence of consumables, we can’t allow people to come into the centre and stand in queues for matters that are not going to be resolved.”

He added that he can’t currently confirm how long the suspension will be, and that they will announce once services resume.
