7 Rand Park High School learners selected for Johannesburg North cricket teams

Rand Park High is celebrating after seven pupils were named to the Johannesburg north area cricket teams, a reflection of the school's growing cricket programme.

Seven Rand Park High School learners have been selected for the Johannesburg north area cricket teams ahead of their upcoming holiday fixtures.

Kopano Ndlovu and Jayden Lewis made the U15 team, while Liam McFarlane, Bathandwa Peter and Lesedi Lelake secured places in the U16 squad in the boy’s division. Kopano, Lesedi and Jayden will play as all-rounders, while Liam and Bathandwa were selected as wicketkeeper-batters, to take to the field during the September and October school holidays.

According to the school, this kind of representation is not unusual for Rand Park, though the number selected this year stands out. Learners who show the strongest potential are invited to trials each season, and this year’s group has been building towards selection for some time. The school noted that although the summer sports season only began in September, with just one match played so far, the selected players have consistently delivered strong performances in previous seasons and have established themselves as key contributors to the cricket programme.

Steve Adelaine, master-in-charge of cricket at Rand Park, said the achievement reflected the school’s broader approach to the sport. “We are committed to developing and strengthening cricket at the school and will continue to seek out strong, competitive fixtures that challenge our players, provide valuable match experience and support their continued growth and development,” he said.

The school’s cricketing success extended to the girls’ division, where Grade 9 learners Zaria Skeepers and Milani Stobber earned selection for the U16 Johannesburg north girls’ cricket team.

The selections mark a strong season for cricket at Rand Park High, with the school set to keep an eye on how its representatives perform when the area teams begin their fixtures.
