Randpark team on high

The Randpark High School Netball team has grown significantly over the past three years, with a dynamic team of girls and head coach honing their skills.

According to Randpark High School public relations manager, Heather Robinson, the team is highly competitive and has successfully been ranked within the top three of the B-pool in the Gauteng Netball Regional League.

“Three years ago we were only participating in the District League, we added long hours of training and coaching, morning fitness sessions, working out in the school’s gym under the watchful eye of a highly qualified sports scientist and conditioning coach. Our players’ dedication and enthusiasm for the game has allowed us to reap amazing results and progress,” said Robinson.

There are 16 netball teams within the school ranging from the U14 teams to the first team. “Grade 12 pupil, Gugu Dhlamini was selected for the U23 Central Gauteng Action Netball team, and first team netball captain, Angelique Buttress was selected to also represent her school provincially,” added Robinson.

The two girls have had the pleasure of being trained by head coach Dalray’s McLean whose coaching philosophy focuses on teaching the players to play a fair yet competitive game with dignity and honour.

“We are so proud of our netball teams’ achievements. They benefit enormously from their participation in netball – not only do they acquire the actual sport-related skills but they also learn how to work as a team, how to deal with competing demands of their team, coping with loss in matches, celebrating their successes, not to mention loyalty to the team and a genuine passion for the game,” concluded McLean.
