Motocross record un-containable

NORTH RIDING – Freestyle motocross riders broke the world record for jumping over the most storage pods.

Gasps of awe rung out as four freestyle motocross riders launched themselves into the air to break a world record.

Dallan Goldman, Scott Billett, Nick de Witt and Reece Chinery drew gasps of awe from the crowd with their death-defying moves when they broke the world record for jumping over the most storage pods at once.

Storage King opened a new facility in spectacular fashion in North Riding, drawing a crowd of hundreds on 23 March. Food stalls, car drifting and freestyle motocross accompanied good vibes on the day.

An early FMX show got the crowd warmed up as the four Jungle Rush riders performed all sorts of tricks while ramping three storeys into the air and landing 21m away.

After a car drift show, which included community members having turns in the supercar, and the cutting of the ribbon for the new facility, staff started to move storage pods between the ramps.

A whopping 14 pods were set up. The dimensions for each pod was 1.6m x 2.2m x 2.3m.

The crowd cheered as one by one the riders began to jump over the pods, which they did with ease.

By the end, the riders were again doing tricks and flips over the pods despite the incredible height they were reaching.

“We didn’t train for this stunt as we knew that we would be within the safety gap,” said Goldman. “We just needed to perform our routine as usual, possibly in the future we will set up a new Storage King record with how many storage units we can jump over and possibly backflip the gap too.”

He added that when doing the massive jumps he tried not to think of his surroundings or what was underneath him.

“Yes we saw the storage units while performing some tricks but it’s part of our head movement for the trick. We rely a lot on the movement and feel of the trick when performing.”

Goldman said the Jungle Rush riders have performances coming up in Durban, Capetown, Bloemfontein and at the FNB Stadium in Joburg in the coming months.

“Stay tuned with the team on social media to find out when more demos will take place.”
