It has been a little over a month since the Archers of Boskruin group was formed, and they are already on the mark.

The archery club is owned by Sentient Archery and shoots at Boskruin Community Centre.

Its training sessions are held in the late afternoons and evenings during the week and most lessons are already booked up, but more can be arranged.

The group was launched in mid-March and according to coach Grant Smith, it has attracted an even spread of accomplished and brand new archers.

“We have received great support from the community, and we would like to thank everyone who has been involved,” Smith said.

“Our main challenges have been the weather and load shedding, because the targets are outside and when the power is out it gets dark and hard to shoot.”

He said as a rule of thumb, the group starts coaching youngsters at the age of 13. But they have taken on archers as old at 10 if they have the physical strength to pull a bow string back and hold it long enough.

“Safety comes first for us. This also in light of Covid. Everyone has their own bow stand, target and arm guard.”

The group only shoots with recurve bows, and has invited the community to give archery a shot.
