Philippe Menache at U3A.
Meeting for U3A at the Gereformeerde Kerk Randburg hosts country traveller Philippe Menache.
The U3A hosted their monthly meeting at the Gereformeerde Kerk Randburg on 7 October for a talk with Philippe Menache.
The ‘third ages’ or U3A had a talk with traveller and author Philippe Menache to discuss his exploration of country churches.
In his explorations around South Africa he and his colleague ventured to hundreds of different churches.
Along the way they encountered stunning architectural styles and designs from pure classical to Cape Gothic.
Menache discussed various architects that have had a massive influence on the design and integrity of church architecture.
For example, Sir Herbert Baker designed over 20 different churches in the Western and Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.
The U3A is hosting their next meeting on 2 November at the Gereformeerde Kerk Randburg at 9.30am.
The guest speaker will be David Fleminger on The World Heritage Sites of South Africa.
He will walk the audience through all of South Africas’ eight heritage sites.
U3A chairman and special interest groups, Bill Reynard said, ”It’s the last meeting of the year, there will be some snacks afterwards for the members to enjoy. What is more exciting is that members who join in at the last meeting will be able to join for the whole of next year. U3A is a great place for people our age to experience new things.”
