Rand Symphony Orchestra brings in the youth with concert

BLAIRGOWRIE — Rand symphony brings big talent in small packages with youth concert.

Malan du Plessis (9), an enthusiastic piano player will join the Rand Symphony Orchestra in their upcoming Youth Concert on 31 May in Blairgowrie.

This is the first time Du Plessis joins the orchestra, but he was bitten by the music bug when he was just four years old. His mother, Mariaan du Plessis said, “He could read music before reading words.”

Du Plessis is also part of Stage Bright School and practises just as hard at home as he does at the music school, according to his parents. School holidays just mean extra practice time.

“I was always amazed at how he reacted and responded to music when he was a little boy. He absolutely loved the piano from day one,” beamed his mother.

The orchestra’s chairperson Isabel Bradly said they are very excited to perform with such young talent.

“It is always our focus to ensure musicians grow and sustain classical music in their society. Our soloists range from 10 to 17 years old, and the programme will include works by Max Bruch, Eduoard Lalo, Dmitry Kabalevsky and Luigi Boccherini.”

Tickets will be available on the day from 2.30pm
