Local YouTuber shares tips to start your own channel
JOBURG – Keyura Pather began her YouTube Channel last year during lockdown and shares some tips to aspiring YouTubers on how to start your own channel.
Local YouTuber Keyura Pather shares her tips to start a YouTube channel after she started her channel last year during the lockdown.
- First of all, it would be to just start. If you would really like to do it, you should just go for it and see if you like it or not.
- Do not be afraid of starting one in the first place because you never know how much you can enjoy something or how much something can grow until you start.
- You do not need fancy equipment and cameras at the beginning.
- Have an upload schedule in terms of uploading at the same time each week – this helps with beating the YouTube algorithm and really getting your videos to a wider audience.
- The next thing is to watch other videos about how to edit, make thumbnails, keep your audience retention high etc. When I started taking these tips more seriously back in August, it’s where I saw the biggest growth in my channel.
- Keep the quality and audio of the video high because if either of them is not good, people will not watch your video for long. So the better these two factors are, the longer people will watch your video and the more your video will be promoted by YouTube to other audience members.
- Finally, my last tip is to have fun and show your personality in the video because that makes a video more personal and interesting to watch.
Pather emphasised the importance of being prepared when on YouTube. When creating her content, she makes a brief outline of what she would like to say. This includes wherein the video she would need to take extra footage to show something.
“When I film, time is dependent on how long the actual video will be such as how many points I may need to cover. I will then edit for anywhere between five to eight hours, again depending on how much footage I have. This is the part I enjoy most because this is where you can add your own flair to the video.”
Afterwards, Pather will re-watch it with the family to check for errors and make changes if any are needed, and save the video, make the thumbnail and schedule it for either a Wednesday or a Sunday.
