Mother’s Day celebrated at Friendship Haven
Most of the elderly mothers do not get to spend special days with their own families.
It was all cheers, laughter and excitement at the Friendship Haven Home for the Aged on Friday afternoon 11 May as the elderly mothers were being treated for Mother’s Day.
Most of them are aged between 80 and almost 100, and have been celebrating this day for decades. They enjoyed the songs and tales that resonated with remarkable motherly experiences, and nibbled on delicacies after the event.
Balloons donated by Randfontein Spur were handed to all the grannies.
Organiser of the event, Beatrix Hooman, said she held the event merely for the mothers at the facility to feel special and appreciated, especially the mothers who, for various reasons, seldom see their own children.
“Most of these mothers do not get to see their own families often. Others have survived their children and have no family left. In some cases the children are living overseas,” she said.
Beatrix said Mother’s Day is very important and has to be celebrated by every mother, so she took it upon herself to make sure that the mothers at Friendship Haven get to enjoy the day. She said she will continue to do so for as long as she is able to.
Every year, I volunteer to organise this special event to show my appreciation to all the mothers for their efforts to help build a healthy society.”
Beatrix is extremely grateful to local business owners who helped to make the event possible by sponsoring it.
