Randfontein Baptist Church marks 50 years at Greenhills home

A milestone anniversary celebrates five decades of faith, family and community in Greenhills

Randfontein Baptist Church (RBC) is celebrating 50 years at its Greenhills premises this weekend, marking a significant milestone in its long-standing presence in the community.

On April 11, 1976, the church moved from a small tin shack on the outskirts of town to its current location on the corner of Karee Street and Nartjie Avenue – a transition that helped shape the surrounding suburb. Originally founded in 1953 as the first Baptist church in Randfontein, RBC has since grown into a well-established community institution.

Despite five decades in the same building, the church says its core mission remains unchanged: to provide a welcoming space for people seeking belonging and spiritual connection.

To commemorate the anniversary, the church will host a special service on Sunday, April 12 at 09:00, with an open invitation extended to all residents.

A celebration across generations

The anniversary service will centre on the theme Generations in the Kingdom, reflecting both the church’s history and its future.

In a symbolic programme, five different generations of congregants – from long-standing members to school-leavers – will share a collective message. The service will also include readings by children, highlighting the church’s strong family focus.

A community beyond Sunday

While the anniversary marks a key moment, the church’s impact extends beyond weekly services through various community-focused initiatives:

  • Life Groups: Monthly gatherings hosted in members’ homes provide an informal space for connection, support and relationship-building.
  • Children’s Church: Held alongside Sunday services, this structured programme engages younger children through lessons, crafts and activities. A secure check-in and check-out system operates from 08:30.
  • Amplified Youth: Friday night sessions cater to teenagers aged 13 to 19, offering a safe environment for discussion, worship and social connection.
Baptism days are always a great time to celebrate, like on this day where Rickus (pictured) is being congratulated on his baptism by Evelina. Photo supplied.
Our youth and young adults enjoy not only serving together as a team but also hanging out after a service (Left to right: Mxolisi, Jaden, Buffy, Bouncer, Mthoko, and Omohau). Photo supplied.

An open invitation

The anniversary celebration is open to the wider community, including those who have previously attended the church or interacted with its outreach initiatives.
