Seven suspects arrested in Limpopo cash-in-transit heist

Police say more arrests are expected.

An intensified operation between the Hawks’ serious organised crime investigation unit, a provincial task team, crime intelligence and a tactical response team, resulted in the arrest of seven suspects believed to be behind the cash-in-transit robbery that occurred on Momday, 28 May, along the Matlala road, says provincial Hawks spokesperson, Captain Matimba Maluleke, Bosveld Review reports.

“Two vehicles: a Toyoya Hilux and a Ford Kuga with bullet holes (both reported stolen in Gauteng), rifle ammunition, cartridges, explosives and money bags were recovered at a house in Seshego,” he added.

Maluleke added that all suspects are expected to appear before the Polokwane Magistrate Court on Wednesday, 30 May and are expected to face a myriad of charges.

According to police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe: “At about 05:35, a group of armed suspects driving in a white Isuzu double cab and a blue Toyota Rav4, attacked a security vehicle transporting money by firing shots at its wheels until it became stationary,” he said.

More arrests are imminent as investigations continue.
