Randfontein rallies around Red October
This is also to take a stance against the oppression of white South Africans.
The white community throughout Randfontein gathered at the Greenhills stadium to commemorate international Red October Day in the fight against ‘black on white’ violence and say that they are fed up of being victims of crime.
This was on 10 October and attendants say that this is also to raise a stance against the oppression of white South Africans and fight the social ills associated with it.
According to Fanie van Vuuren who speaks on behalf of the campaign in Randfontein, Red October should be seen as a platform that indicates that white people have had enough of being victims of black on white apartheid and violence owing to the injustices of the past.
“Yes we have a rather controversial past as a country, however we have moved away from that
“We have made a decision during the first national elections that we will unite as a country, but this is not what’s happening.
“We have politicians making irresponsible statements like ‘kill the boer, kill the farmer’ and it is definitely uncalled for.
“I cannot believe that so many years into democracy we have people instigating violence like that,” says van Vuuren.
He adds that white genocide is on the rise in South Africa with white South Africans being attacked in their homes and on their farms.
“Most of the time, these attacks are fueled by politicians who do not want South Africa to move forward as a country.
“How many times do you hear of a white man killing a black man?” he says.
Meanwhile, attendants at the event had placards with different messages in line with the cause of the day.
At the end of the event, attendants released red balloons into the sky to mark their stance.
