Library celebrates literacy monh
Randfontein Library celebrates National Literacy Month by hosting a story hour at Badirile Library.
As part of their National Literacy Month Celebrations, Randfontein Library hosted a story hour at Badirile Library on 26 September.
The purpose of this story hour was to celebrate and promote literacy Month during September.
Also, by hosting this outreach program, the library staff tried to encourage children as well as the creche staff to join the Badirile library and to start reading and making it a good habit.
According to the librarian at the Randfontein Library, Jeanine Mostert, the event took place in the Badirile Library.
“The staff of this library introduced the children to the library as well as to their reading and various books in order to uplift the literacy rate amongst the community,” says Jeanine.
One of the staff members at the library read a story to the children between the ages of four and six years whereby they did some singing, dancing and poetry afterwards.
“The staff also spoiled the children present with lunch afterwards. They bought chicken and had a braai outside the library,” says Jeanine.
“The staff, shildren and teachers really enjoyed the story houd and hopefully this can become a monthly programme at this library.”
