Randfontein Library hosts Born 2 Read project
Randfontein Local Library boasts with yet successful Born 2 Read project.
Randfontein Library hosted their annual Born 2 Read project at Jabulani Informal Settlement on 27 September and boasts with great success during this event.
According to the librarian at Randfontein Library, Jeanine Mostert, the purpose of the programme was to emphasize the importance of reading, especially from a young age.
“Pregnant women and mothers of toddlers were invited to the event in order to educate them on the importance of reading to their children from a very young age,” says Jaenine.
“Children should be born to read in order to ensure a reading nation, which will improve the literacy rate in our country.”
The programme was opened with a prayer, done by Reverend Mtshiza.
The opening and welcoming was done by DA Councillor Alwyn van Tonder, while the director of Social Services, Mary Molawa handled the purpose of the day after which MMC Patricia Matuwane delivered the keynote address.
Guest speakers were also invited to talk about various topics such as healthy eating and early childhood development.
Pauline Toona from the Department of Health encouraged the expecting mothers and mothers of toddlers to follow a healthy eating plan while pregnant and to continue this habit with their toddlers.
“The event was a staggering success and the Randfontein Library thanks each and everyone who took the time to attend the event,” says Jeanine.
