Randfontein enjoyes yet another successful Portuguese festival

Once again the annual Portuguese Festival enjoyes a great attendance from the Randfontein community.

On 3 November the annual Randfontein Portuguese Fiesta took place at St Anthony Catholic Church.

The stunning warm weather played a part as well as the awesome crowd which was well in excess of 2 500 people which surpassed last year’s best, attended fiesta.

The one thing that makes this fiesta the success it is, can be attributed to the fact the organisers work like a family, and sacrifice many hours to ensure that only the very best is given.

So come the day of the fiesta a true Madeirense Portuguese fiesta is presented and people can enjoy a real and authentic representation of the culture.

The Fiesta started at 11am with a mass conducted by visiting priest from St Patricks parish in La Roshelle, Johannesburg, father Ivaldo, who is a Brazilian priest.

He conducted mass in Portuguese as well as English and was assisted by father Jude who is St Anthony’s Priest.

After mass the fiesta went into full swing with families arriving in their masses to enjoy traditional Portuguese food and drinks as well as a great line-up of entertainment.

The entertainment for the day was opened by young and up and coming singer Marco Goncalves who is 15 year old West Rand boy.

After Marco it was the turn of Ricardo Da Conceicao a very talented accordion player hailing from Boksburg on the East Rand, who performed traditional Portuguese music.

He was followed by Mario Gomes from Randfontein and his Hip Hop Dance Academy with all of his dance crews performing an amazing dance set full of energy and personality.

All in all the fiesta achieved its goal of displaying the Madeirense Portuguese culture, ensuring everyone was safe and could enjoy themselves.
