SA girl’s design is today’s Google Doodle

A pupil from Krugersdorp is beyond herself after winning the annual Google Doodle competition and being featured on Google's site today.

Google SA recently launched a competition open to all South African children, asking them to depict the South Africa of their dreams through the means of art.

Katya Ludick, a Grade 8 pupil from Noordheuwel High School in Krugersdorp, took first place with her design depicting a South Africa free of poaching.

Katya said many animal species become extinct due to a change in their habitat, but it’s completely unacceptable for them to suffer because of human interference.

In  her design, Google’s letters depict the South African flag as a symbol of  being “Proudly South African” she said.

The reflection on the water reflects on 20 years of democratic freedom, while the sun represents hope.
