Randfontein police support the less fortunate

Randfontein police spend time with seniors at Trudy’s Nest Christmas Function.

Randfontein police’s social crime prevention unit attended the Trudy’s Nest function to not just end the year off for the elderly support group but also to spoil the seniors that it looks after.

Trudy’s Nest was established around 10 years ago by Trudy Haywood who has a passion for helping others and is striving to better the lives of senior citizens in Toekomsrus.

Through Trudy’s Nest, seniors in Toekomsrus are given an extra bit of help with food twice a week. In addition to this, Trudy’s Nest also delivers food to the elderly who are bed ridden.

At the start of the function, seniors from the area were treated to hearty soup and bread from the Shoprite mobile soup kitchen at the Toekomsrus Library Hall where a local reverend encouraged them with a short sermon.

They were treated to songs and dances performed by the Randfontein Methodist Women Auxiliary before being treated to lunch courtesy of the group.

Randfontein police further wished the senior citizens a safe and peaceful festive season. Certificates of appreciation were also handed out to seniors by the police.

Towards the end of the function, Christmas gifts were handed out with compliments of Doxi Deo Church from Krugersdorp. Haywood was also applauded during the vote of thanks for her efforts over the past 10 years.
