Skydiver seriously injured after hard landing

'It is believed that the woman lost consciousness while skydiving.'

A 33-year-old woman is in a serious condition after she had a rough landing at a skydiving club in Carletonville on Saturday.

According to ER24 spokesperson, Russel Meiring, “When paramedics arrived on scene, they found the patient lying on the ground in the middle of the field. A number of bystanders had gathered around her.

“Paramedics assessed the patient and found that she had sustained serious injuries to her back. Paramedics began their treatment on the patient while the AER24 helicopter was called in to assist in transportation.

“Once treated, the patient was airlifted to a private hospital in Johannesburg for urgent medical treatment.

“It is believed that the woman lost consciousness while skydiving, and came to moments later, however at that time she was very close to the ground as was unable to slow down her decent in time.”
