The other adjudicators were from a wide spectrum of professions including lawyers and members of the Hawks.

The panel also included newcomers in the industry to give a balanced view and opinion on the commonalities of the characters in the play measured against the actual profiles of youth offenders.

The original script is The League of Extraordinary boys. It is an original, thought-provoking and powerful drama depicting the brutal gang culture in South Africa’s juvenile penal system.

The honest, and often gutting-edge portrayal of a seemingly forgotten society, hypnotically relates the lethal consequences of our most savage survival instincts.

The play touches on subjects like the reality of rape in prisons, the impact of rejection by parents, violence, sexuality and the brutality of the gang, well known as the ’28s.

The actors in the play is Antonio Martin, playing the character of Cupcake who brilliantly portrays the role of a gay prisoner. The other actors are Slang (Kyle Treasurer); General (Cantona James ); Retard (Wade Ramsey); Einstein (Loyame Mlawuli) and Wittens (Jermaine Dickson).
