Political party leaves a mess after rally

Residents of Waterpan and motorists passing by on the N12 past Westonaria were horrified after they saw the mess left following an alleged ANC rally before the launch of ANC manifesto.

Johan van Wyk, resident of Waterpan and chairperson of the Waterpan Neighbourhood Watch said he saw over 30 buses carrying ANC supporters to whom officials were handing food parcels. Van Wyk alleged that after the parcels were handed out, the party of supporters and officials threw their rubbish in the surrounding area.

He said he first saw the sight on Friday (3 June) when he was driving home from work.

When the Herald went to inspect the area residents have been complaining about, polystyrene food packages and fruit boxes as well as posters were found scattered alongside either side of the N12 and in and around the old Waterpan petrol station.

“Members of the community have been sending images on our neighbourhood watch group of the rubbish littering the N12,” Van Wyk explained.

How can you lead a country if you can’t even leave an area clean?

“What are people going to think about our town when they drive past,” Van Wyk said.

Van Wyk said he is absolutely appalled by the mess that was made and that on a national road. His question now is: Who will be responsible for the cleaning of the area?
