Youths’ door to the workplace
The youth should not be participating in undesirable social activities.
There is light at the end of the tunnel for Westonaria youth who have been struggling to further their studies and get jobs.
In response to challenges the youth of Westonaria are experiencing, Bosa Keys, a strategic business partner of Wal Training, is hosting a six-month training programme. The programme aims to educate youth who have completed matric but lack the funds and resources to further their education.
The programme is set to start mid-July and stretches over November and December. The three main sectors in which training will be provided are welding and spray painting, construction and agriculture.
“This means a lot of the youth who previously spent their holidays at home or participating in undesirable activities will be occupied with training instead,” Bosa said.
Wal Training aims to recruit 600 eager students to participate in the programme. This will close the gap between matric education and practical experience to prepare young people for the workplace.
Partnering businesses will provide an accredited certification for practical training. “Our programme is aimed to suit recruits,” Bosa said. “Instead of hosting theoretical classes in central business districts, we will make use of facilities close to larger groups of participants.”
Personal protective equipment (PPE) and a stipend of R1 500 will be provided for each student.
