R’fontein petrol stations feeling the pinch

Petrol stations across Randfontein are starting to feel the effects as the mass wage strike in the petrochemical industry enters its second week.
It’s said that 15 000 members of the Chemical Energy Paper Printing Wood and Allied Workers Union are currently on strike, demanding a wage increase of nine per cent.
BP Randfontein petrol station had run dry completely by last week Friday, but the owners assured the Herald that fuel was expected to arrive the following day between 6am and 6pm.
Fatima Essop, manager of Engen Randgate said they don’t know when to expect their next fuel delivery.
“There is no communication between the fuel suppliers and our garages,” Fatima said. “We continually strive to serve our customers despite the challenges we face, and will supply fuel as long as we can.”
Fazel Asvat, owner of Culemborg Park Motors, said they have been very lucky not to experience any shortage. “We hope our next batch of petrol arrives tomorrow so that everything can run as smoothly as it did the past week,” Fazel said.
Adlem Auto’s Shell petrol station has also been blessed with a consistent supply of fuel.
