A fire that broke out in the Westonaria Central Business District (CBD) on National Braai Day destroyed seven shops.
According to Benny Mohlabeng, public safety regional commander, the fire started at about 6am on Saturday (24 September).
Mohlabeng said his department as well as the Westonaria Police are still investigatingthe cause of the fire.
It is unclear whether anyone was injured in the fire, however, Mohlabeng said it broke out before the shops opened.
The last business fire the Heraldreported on in the now Rand West City Local Municipality was one in the Randfontein CBD in July last year in which a furniture shop lost R35 000 worth of stock.
