Vehicle rolls: Two seriously injured

Two men sustained serious injuries after their vehicle rolled several times during the weekend.

Two men were injured, one of them sustaining life-threatening injuries, when they were thrown from their vehicle as it rolled several times on the R501 just 8km outside Carletonville on Sunday, 9 October.

Werner Vermaak, the ER24 spokesperson, said, “Shortly after 7am, paramedics arrived on the scene and found the vehicle on the side of the road. One of the occupants was lying approximately 15 metres away.

“One of the occupants of the vehicle was in a critical condition. ER24 paramedics placed him on life support and an emergency medical helicopter was called to the scene to airlift him to a hospital in Johannesburg.”

Vermaak added that a second occupant was found approximately 100 metres away from the scene near the railway line. It is believed that he walked there, and then collapsed. He was found to be in a serious condition. ER24 paramedics treated and stabilised him before rushing him to the Fountains Hospital in Carletonville.

The exact cause of the incident is not yet known.
