The SPCA’s Annual Dog Walk was held in Randfontein on Sunday 9 October in commemoration of Animal Week.

On this day, the streets of Randfontein saw many feet and paws walking the walk for a good cause.

From Huskies to Chihuahuas, each four-legged friend was more than happy to play its part in this exciting event. With shoelaces tied and leashes fastened, the walk was on.

Each participant, with his or her furry friend(s) started walking from the SPCA Centre, through Randfontein and back, covering a six-kilometre route.

“This year we introduced a new route to the participants and we’re thrilled with the lovely weather that’s in our favour,” said Lucy Phillips, manager of SPCA Randfontein and Westonaria.

During the walk, the traffic department assisted the participants for safety purposes and in order to comply with road regulations.

After the event, each dog received a certificate for participating in the SPCA Annual Dog Walk. Boerewors rolls and other refreshments were available afterwards, and the winners of the raffle were announced.

The first prize included free grooming sessions for the winner’s dog every month for one year, courtesy of Spiffs 2 Pet Grooming Parlour.

“This is our ninth or tenth annual walk. We’re thrilled to be able to host this fun activity for all dogs and their owners.

“The walk was a huge success and we would like to thank everyone who contributed to making this day such fun. The funds raised will be used for the maintenance of the SPCA,” Lucy concluded.
