Three DA councillors out on site to see the extent of the problem.
Three councillors responded to social media complaints made by Randfontein residents about the constant smoke they have been exposed to during the past few months.
The councillors – Sina Erasmus, Craig Harrison and Peter Dick – told the Herald during a visit to the site that the smoke is a result of what appears to be a veld fire located behind a sewage farm in Elandsvlei.
All the councillors agreed this is a health issue for the public as the fire gives off a very bad odour which has made it very unpleasant for residents.
The problem has been ongoing for two months and residents have taken to social media to complain.
Harrison said for the last two months he has received numerous queries on social media, as people have complained, but said the matter has since been reported to the municipality and the fire and rescue services to attend to.
“Some parts are still smouldering, so we would like the municipality to come and assist,” Harrison added.
