A total of 88 suspects were arrested over a period of three days for various crimes committed on the West Rand.
According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, operations were held from 18 to 20 October.
She added that those arrested were suspects in crimes such as murder, rape, business robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, common robbery, theft, assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm and assault related to domestic violence, while minor offences included driving under the influence of liquor, shoplifting and drunkenness. Drugs as well as stolen property were also recovered.

She added that police on the West Rand are committed to making the district a safer place.
“Crime prevention operations, including O Kae Molao, are conducted on a weekly basis, thus preventing unlawful activities from happening. We urge the community to support these operations by assisting police with information regarding any illegal activity happening in the district.
“Together we can do more.”
She added that in Fochville on the far West Rand, police have launched a manhunt for four armed suspects wearing balaclavas who had trespassed on a farm and robbed a 57-year-old of six firearms, before driving off in his Isuzu bakkie with registration number BF 61 KK GP.
“The suspects are still at large. Anyone with information that could lead to their arrest is urged to contact the police on 08600 10111.”
