West Rand cop shot at crime scene

Police say wounded West Rand female cop in 'critical, but stable condition'.

Constable Sindisiwe Matshaya, a 36-year-old female officer stationed at the Wedela Police Station in the West Rand District sustained a serious gunshot wound while attending to a case last week.

“The member was taken to Fountain Private Hospital in Carletonville. She in a critical but stable condition,” said Constable Rebecca Phithi, the acting West Rand District Police spokesperson.

She added that Constable Matshaya was shot in the neck while investigating a business robbery scene in Extension 2 at about 4.20pm on Wednesday, 30 October.

The armed suspect managed to escape, but two of his accomplices were arrested.”

Major General Fred Kekana, the West Rand District Police Commissioner is appealing to the public to come forward with information that will lead to the arrest of the suspect that is on the run.

“He is the one who had a firearm in his possession and is a danger to himself and to the public at large.”
