What are they doing with our money?

Family in Greenhills fed up with the municipality because a clogged-up drain is making their lives difficult.

Johny Grubb and his family are frustrated. A clogged-up drain is the reason why they cannot empty their bathtub nor flush their toilet.

The 38-year-old, who is fed up with the poor living conditions he and his been family are being subjected to, said he plans to dump all the sewage that has been blocking the sewerage system at the municipal offices.

He claimed he has sent emails, text messages and phoned the municipality numerous times, without anyone responding to his request to have the issue fixed.

“I am telling you now, I will not be paying monthly rates and taxes. What am I paying for?” an angry Grubb asked. He believes the municipality has stopped caring about people.

“At first they thought the problem was in my yard, but upon further investigation they discovered it was actually a clogged main line on Raven Street and then everything made sense.

“The whole of last week I called them every day, and they said they would look into the problem. I told them that checking the problem would not help us, because the sh*** is flowing all over my yard,” Grubb said.

He said in his efforts to try to resolve the problem on his own, he got plumbers out who told him that the original problem was on the main sewer line.

“The guy told me that we had a bigger problem. Although it was not his duty to do so, he was kind enough to help up look into the main sewer line. As we opened the drain, we found a rock inside the manhole. We wondered how the hell it got in there.”

He said even after the rock had been removed, the system remained blocked.

“It was clear that it had been blocked for a while as it is actually dry on top,” Grubb added.

He said he intended to have the sewage pumped out and dumped in front of the municipal offices.

“Because we have to live like this, so can they. What if my children or my dogs get sick? Who will foot the bill? What if my property is damaged? I cannot be paying rates and taxes for my property to keep being damaged. What are they doing with our money?” asked a disgruntled Grubb.
