A total of 400 households in the Badirile informal settlement in Brandvlei were electrified by Eskom on Wednesday, 13 November.
This comes 10 years after the municipality has declared the area as habitable.

According to Victor Ramagaga, Eskom spokesperson, the registration began in 2009 after the residents started moving into the area.

“Throughout the years, the process progressed smoothly. It was never disrupted by any protests and people making demands. The only problem was that permission for the electricity supply had to obtained so that people could get services,” Ramagaga said.
He also urged residents to make sure that they support Eskom by buying electricity legally, especially in the midst of Eskom’s financial crisis.
“We as a business appeal to you not to become an additional burden to Eskom as we are all aware of the trails and tribulations that the business is experiencing. Although it is not easy, we are still committed to providing a good-quality service to the people of South Africa, but we need revenue to sustain our services,” Ramagaga said.
