West Rand police make 31 arrests as operations continue

Police from at least 13 stations in the West Rand raided liqour outlets and second-hand dealers and mad 31 arrests during yet another Operation O Kae Molao.

A total of 31 suspects involved in various crimes were arrested by police from various stations in the West Rand District as Operation O Kae Molao continued in the Wedela area on Monday, 18 November.

According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, spokesperson for the Bekkersdal Police and West Rand District, the operation started at 4.30am and ended at about 2pm.

She added those arrested were involved in crimes ranging from undocumented persons, robbery, possession of suspected stolen property, possession of dagga, possession of counterfeit goods and interfering with police officers’ duties. Many traffic fines were also issued.

“Liquor outlets, second-hand dealers and tuckshops were also raided for non-compliance and expired goods,”she said.

Lefakane said all arrested suspects are to appear in court soon.

Major General Fred Kekana, the West Rand District Police Commissioner, applauded the members for their selflessness and for their state of readiness when it comes to combating crime.

“Working together as a team will always yield positive results,” Kekana added.
