Talliah de Waal, 18, who recently completed her matric at Randfontein High School (RHS) along with thousands of other learners across the country, expressed her desire to become a veterinarian.
“A new chapter in my life begins now. My school year was a stepping stone to everything that is to come in the next 10 years in reaching the dream I have had since I was a little girl,” Talliah said excitedly.
Having met all the requirements, Talliah will study Veterinary Science at the University of Pretoria.
Asked why she wanted to become a vet, Talliah said, “Words cannot explain the love I have for animals. I would love to work with exotic animals in particular,” she said.
Talliah said the other reason she has chosen this career path is to rescue animals that have been abandoned by those who are supposed to love and protect them.
“There are many stray animals, especially dogs that I believe need more care,” Talliah said.
She added that many of them are neglected and left to fend for themselves.
The youngster said that she will come back home one day and make a difference in the animal kingdom once she has gained sufficient knowledge and expertise. She believes anyone, no matter their background, can achieve absolutely anything.
“I would like to encourage young people out there to chase their dreams. We all have a purpose, and as soon as you realise what your purpose is, nothing should stand in your way or hold you back. Believe in yourself and do what you love doing” Talliah added.
