Residents of Mohlakeng Extension 11 decried the conditions they have been living in for months on end.
They said Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) had turned a deaf ear to their pleas to intervene.

According to one of the residents, Eunice Mokgatho, some of the worst conditions that have upset the residents are illegal dumping and overflowing sewage, which resulted in an unhealthy environment that poses a health hazard to locals.
“It is a real struggle, and we are always fearing for our health. Sometimes there is a bad odour and it is quite unbearable. We can no longer live like this, because no human deserves to be subjected to such conditions,” Mokgatho said.

Residents said thousands of litres of clean water are going to waste from leaking pipes, without anything being done.
“Sometimes residents fetch water from some of the ponds. It is unsafe because the water might be contaminated. Instead of living a normal life and raising our families, it feels as if we are in danger,” Makgatho complained.
