Bekkersdal welcomes new community-focused facility

A newly launched multi-purpose centre is set to streamline community care by housing early childhood support, elder care, and social grant assistance under one roof.

Residents of Bekkersdal can now access a range of social development services closer to home following the opening of the Bekkersdal Social Integrated Facility on Thursday, October 29.

The facility, officially opened by Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi and MEC for Social Development Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko, houses an early childhood development centre, a daycare centre for older persons and South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) offices.

Boost for vulnerable residents

According to MEC spokesperson Dloze Matooane, the Gauteng Department of Social Development has officially taken over the facility to improve access to co-ordinated services and support vulnerable individuals and families.

Nkomo-Ralehoko said the centre aims to bring government services closer to communities while restoring human dignity through meaningful social development interventions.
