Cornerstone Christian School in Greenhills is concerned about the health of its learners after parts of the school yard has become flooded with sewage.
Candice Strydom, deputy principal of the school said for the last three weeks they had made numerous calls to the municipality, without any action being taken. All they got were empty promises that someone would be sent out to look at the problem.
“It worsened with time, and all we could do was to build a wall to divert the flow to the outside of the school premises,” Strydom said.

She added that classes had to moved and playgrounds barricaded so that the learners were not exposed – however, the stench remained.
“The overflowing sewage has even seeped into the grass,” she added.

Ellik de Lange, Ward 6 councillor said he had also reported the problem to council, but was told that one of the trucks was not available.
“Part of the problem is that it is very difficult to get hold of them and get services from council. The other issue is that the sewage seems to be coming from one of the houses nearby,” De Lange said.
