Another lockdown weekend: More than 800 arrests in Gauteng

The second lockdown weekend in May saw over 800 people being arrested for various crimes in Gauteng.

Gauteng Police arrested more than 800 suspects during operations that were conducted in the province over the weekend.

According to Captain Mavela Masondo from the office of the Gauteng Police Commissioner, “The suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from murder, rape, robbery with aggravating circumstances, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, malicious damage to property, possession of drugs, driving while under the influence of alcohol, possession of suspected stolen property, possession of unlicensed firearms and fraud.”

He added that Gauteng Police are continuing to trace suspects believed to have committed serious and violent crimes.
