Management of the Randfontein Police have led a Career Day exhibition for local youth at the Randfontein Labour Centre on Friday, February 11.

According to police spokesperson and coordinator of the exhibition, Sergeant Carmen Hendricks, various government departments and agencies were on board to show young prospective professionals the career opportunities available to them.

Also involved in the exhibition were the Department of Labour; Rand West Traffic Department; Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs; South African Social Security Agency; South Deep Mine; South African Revenue Services; Westcol; West Rand Youth Development; Philane Development Centre; and The Independent Institute of Education.

The job-seekers had the opportunity to hand in their CVs to be loaded onto the Department of Labour database, while police facilitated the certifying of documents,” Sergeant Hendricks said.

They distributed over 900 pamphlets to warn those who were in attendance against crimes such as sexual offences; substance abuse; gender-based violence; cyberbullying; and human trafficking; and promoted road safety.

Those in attendance were told to be careful of scammers when they’re desperately looking for jobs.

“We’ve told them to remember that no money will be asked when applying for a job. They were also encouraged to study and never give up, to take each and every opportunity and make the best of it,” Sergeant Hendricks said.
