Mobile Vehicle Testing Unit day 1 results: 29 out of 49 vehicles unroadworthy

Mobile Vehicle Testing Unit: Out of the 49 vehicles tested on day one, only 11 were roadworthy.

Twenty-nine vehicles out of 41 were found to be unroadworthy on Monday March 14 – the first day the Mobile Vehicle Testing Unit was in operation on the R559 and R558.

According to Rand West City Traffic Department (RWCTD) chief Kenny Mampondo, only 11 vehicles were found to be complying with traffic laws and to be roadworthy, while one result has not been revealed.

Stakeholders who were part of the operation included RWCTD, Merafong Service Point and the Bekkersdal Police.

The acting deputy director of the Gauteng Traffic Police, Chief Elias Makgalwa and Mampondo said, “The Mobile Law Enforcement Unit will be utilised to check vehicles for roadworthiness during the Easter long weekend. The equipment is able to check light motor vehicles, combis, 4×4s and light delivery vehicles. Vehicles that are found to be unroadworthy are discontinued immediately. This is an endeavour to fight the road carnage and rid our roads of vehicles that do not belong there.”
