Top movies to enjoy with the family on Christmas Day

As the festive season draws closer, here are five film recommendations to watch during the festive season.

Christmas is not just a time for cheers and laughs, but also a time for great entertainment and a relaxed time with the family. Once the presents have been opened and the treats are enjoyed, why not turn on your TV and enjoy some oldies and modern classic movies for the rest of your day?

1. It’s a Wonderful Life: This is a classic film made in 1946. The film was directed by Frank Capra and is based on the short story and booklet The Greatest Gift, self-published by Philip van Doren Stern in 1943, which itself is loosely based on the 1843 Charles Dickens novella A Christmas Carol. The film stars James Stewart as George Bailey, a man who has given up his personal dreams to help others in his community and whose thoughts of suicide on Christmas Eve bring about the intervention of his guardian angel, Clarence Odbody.

2. Elf: Will Ferrell plays a human raised by elves who travels to New York to find his dad. It is hilarious, sweet, and full of Christmas cheer. This family film The film inspired the 2010 Broadway musical Elf: The Musical and NBC’s 2014 stop motion animated television special Elf: Buddy’s Musical Christmas. It has been hailed by many as a modern classic and is often listed as one of the best Christmas films of all time.

3. Are we there yet? This wholesome family film starring Ice Cube tells the story of Lindsey and Kevin Kingston, who are two mischievous siblings who sabotage the relationships of their divorced mother in a determined effort to keep her single until their parents reconcile. Meanwhile, the single and child-hating sports shop owner Nick Persons (Ice Cube), who takes an interest in their mother, offers to take the kids on a road trip to win the affection of their mother; however, he soon experiences a great and comedic adventure.
